On 20 May, Let’s Talk Prostate Cancer (LTPC) hosted the international event “Shining Light on Global Practices in Prostate Cancer Policy and Care”, gathering experts, clinicians, and patient advocates from the EU and Latin America. Held virtually, the roundtable created space for a cross-regional exchange on early detection strategies, systemic challenges, and policy solutions in prostate cancer care.
Speakers from Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil outlined the hurdles they face in implementing structured screening and equitable access to treatment, highlighting persistent health system fragmentation and late-stage diagnoses. Prof. Hendrik Van Poppel, representing the European Association of Urology (EAU) and the EU’s PRAISE-U initiative, brought insights into Europe’s push for risk-based screening models. Jacqueline Daly’s powerfully shared patient and caregiver perspective reminded all attendees of the emotional and psychological dimensions of the disease.
Participants agreed that prostate cancer screening should be prioritised, local implementation of national policies supported, and bridges built between regional efforts, particularly through culturally sensitive awareness campaigns and collaborative pilot programmes.
As Prof. Van Poppel noted, “Early detection is essential, and organised screening will save both lives and healthcare costs.”
