In Sweden, the estimated incidence rate for prostate cancer is 215.7 per 100,000 population, making the prostate cancer incidence rate the highest in the EU.1 With the European average of estimated prostate cancer incidence being 153.9 per 100,000, the incidence rate in Sweden is considerably higher than the EU average.1

Mortality
In Sweden, the estimated mortality for prostate cancer is 47.5 per 100,000, significantly higher than the EU27 average of 32.1 per 100,000.1 This is the third highest prostate cancer mortality rate in the EU, behind Estonia (55 per 100,000) and Denmark (48.5 per 100,000).1

Survival
The five-year survival rate for prostate cancer in Sweden is 90.7% (2010-2014).1 For comparison, the most recent five-year survival rates in other Scandinavian countries such as Finland and Denmark are 93.2% and 85.6% respectively.1

National policies
In 2009, Sweden adopted a National Cancer Strategy for the Future. This document takes into account that prostate cancer is the most common cancer type in men and collects data and reports about the evolution of prostate cancer incidence and mortality over the years. The Cancer Strategy also points out that there is no organised screening for prostate cancer in Sweden.
