INCIDENCE
In Poland, the estimated incidence rate for prostate cancer is 97.4 per 100,000 population.1 With the European average of estimated prostate cancer incidence at 153.9 per 100,000,1 the incidence rate in Poland is significantly lower than the EU average and the third lowest in the EU.

MORTALITY
In Poland, the estimated mortality for prostate cancer is 38.1 per 100,000, which is higher than the EU27 average of 32.1 per 100,000.1 Mortality rates from prostate cancer have increased since 2000.2 In fact, mortality from preventable causes has decreased over the years in Poland, but it is still considerably higher than average rates in the EU.2

NATIONAL POLICES
The implementation of the new National Oncology Strategy 2020-30 aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of cancer care in Poland. The strategy plans to introduce publicly funded research programs for screening in high-risk groups and ensure early detection of prostate cancer. In addition, the Cancer Control Strategy for Poland (2015-2024) mentions prostate cancer specifically.
CLINICAL GUIDELINES
In 2019, Poland also introduced an organisational model for diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer to improve equal access of patients to cancer care and to address unmet needs of patients. The recommended care pathway is in line with EU guidelines and includes patient access to*:

Cancer medicines spend
Only €15 is spent on cancer medicines per capita in the Poland, the fifth lowest spender in the EU, only followed by Latvia (€13), Luxembourg (€12), Estonia and Greece (both €4).1
